This was not a light decision, and it was not made on the fly. It doesn’t even have to be permanent. I’ve been giving alien a pass on many borderline exploitative behaviors for a long time. Mostly he keeps within his bounds and helps out, but he often ends up going a bit overboard when it comes to Survival.
The rule is pretty simple: Do not exploit town protections. In many cases he has stepped over these lines. Not so much when he convinces idiots to drop their own protections, though I will talk about that in a bit, but as simple recent examples: dropping dragon eggs inside towns, flooding a town by dropping blocks outside, and possibly using Regent status to open doors for reasons other than simply checking possible item exploits. I had to warn him twice not to drown player spawns in lava. Once ought to have been enough.
Look, I still trust his judgement in many areas. Again, this doesn’t have to be permanent if he just watches what he’s doing in Survival and actually helps report broken things instead of simply retaliating against the idiots that use them first.
As an aside to the whole server, I’m just a little annoyed at some of the chatter that goes on during these attacks. If people are too stupid to understand how to run their own towns properly, I don’t want to see deliberate misinformation. You are not obligated to tell them how much of an idiot they are (though you are welcome to), but I don’t want to see you exploiting their idiocy for nefarious means.
More specifically, “Delete your town if you want to stop the war. ” or “You started a town and you can’t even figure out simple town commands?” is okay whereas “Type /town delete to go neutral! ” is not.
TL/DR: Going to war, capturing a block, and looting the captured buildings good. Using captured block to flood still-protected blocks bad. Mods should not be okay with little exploits here and there.
First I’d like to lighten the mood a bit by pointing out that I’ve always used the word ‘aught’ instead of ‘ought.’ Funny, isn’t it? I don’t even know the difference. I guess it’s just another meaningless thing for me to look up on the web tonight. Anywho, I fully agree to the points Sil brought up, but I still wish that I was there to witness the incident firsthand so that I could form my own opinion on this whole thing. Whatever, I apologize for my actions, but if you’re going to demote me for this then you might as well demote a handful of other players including g33builder, JS1200, dudersman, sgtstickman, and emperorczer for “bypassing towny protections” by doing things similar to what is listed in your post.

but that isn’t really “bypassing a towny glitch” because towny does not protect against flowing lava. For example, if someone were to explode TNT right outside of a town’s borders and still damage blocks inside of the town, that would be an exploit because towny is meant to protect against explosions. However, towny has no restrictions against lava flowing into town lands, so in my opinion I do not really consider it an exploit. However, even if you do consider this an exploit, why am I the only one who is being punished for this? People have been flooding towns with lava since the time of old solas and possibly in old survival as well, and you didn’t take any action at all.
As for some of the other things you have mentioned, such as “dropping dragon eggs inside towns” and “using regent powers for the wrong reasons”, I have not done either. I admit to having spawned a few enderdragons in takeit’s town, but I killed them outside of the town in the wilderness. The ones that dropped eggs inside of the town were either killed by dudersman, g33builder, or takeit himself. As for supposedly abusing regent powers, I have never done this. All of the conflicts I have created in survival were done legitimately and I am innocent in this matter.
Additionally, why a demotion for the punishment? I thought the punishment for such actions was a tempban, or even a permanent ban, as it has been in the past.
Oh, and what is the point of demoting me in creative for something that happened in survival? I see no logic in that. If you are so intent on demoting me then you should just demote me to lord in survival and let me keep my creative rank.
Bans have always been subjective. When you are a newbie there’s really nowhere left to go but a ban, and it’s usually the newbies stepping past the rule – and doing so deliberately with little room for it being a misunderstanding. Demotions have been done in the past, on rare occasions. I don’t ban every player in trial either for a few screwups if I get the sense that it was probably sheer dumb ignorance rather than blatant griefing. And I see no reason to permanently ban someone who has been, 99% of the time, an asset to the server. Getting down to brass tax: this probably hurts more than a tempban, unless it was a debilitatingly long one.
I also can’t enforce things I don’t know about. You can report activity on the forum for a reason. I’ve been vaguely aware that these things were probably happening, but I can’t be checking every block all the time.
When it gets down to it, towns are supposed to protect from any outside alteration. If forcing lava and water into a town was legal, you would be able to place water blocks inside the town. With a 256 world height, you can cause all kinds of dumb havoc if you climb to the world limit and place your blocks carefully. The fact that you placed the initial blocks outside is sorta beside the point.
And the other thing, server ranks have always been tied to Creative. I can think of one - maybe two - exceptions to that rule in the history of the server, and I don’t intend to change that now.
Aside to ab: I suppose it is interchangeable. It may be a british/american difference. In the US, though, ought is more common in this respect when ‘aught’ usually means ‘none’ or ‘zero’. “Forty aught six.”
So you’re saying that you don’t notice or even care when lower ranked people do it, but when I do something I automatically get demoted. Oh and it’s your server, if you had suspicions then you should’ve come online and actually inspected it yourself.

The point is, you’ve just lost your only active staff member and probably a large amount of other active players, all because of something you consider “illegal”. If you considered flooding towns with lava “illegal” then you should have said so half a year ago, when this all started. Since you never said anything about it, everyone just assumed there was nothing wrong with it. It would’ve been nice if you had actually specified what a “towny exploit” is when you started the survival world, instead of punishing people for something they didn’t know was wrong.
More people that were involved in past wars: 7racerboy77, chickenwings, icyagent20, godlyman9, endlessmahou, grip112, johnsonclan, and calvert4096. Are you seriously going to demote most of the high ranked players on silcraft just because you call pouring lava into another town exploit. Even if you want to consider this an exploit, you should have said so the first time this has happened, not a year later. Thats basically like letting someone do a certain action, and then a year later when they repeat it, you say it’s a crime and they are punished for it. Whatever, as long as the demotions continue, you’ll just lose more and more players from the server.
I’ve given you a pass on this type of things many times, so please don’t paint yourself as a poor singled-out victim. It tends to look like a tantrum. New players who don’t play by the rules have been banned regularly, and far more often than veteran players.
And when you get right down to it, when a server Mod is constantly seeking every semi-legal loophole to antagonize other players, it sets a pretty bad precedent for new players that “hey, anything goes, as long as it’s not exploit x, y, or z!”
So ultimately, yes. Most of the blame for these things does come down to the highest ranking player that was supporting them in the first place. By typical moral code, the captain is supposed to be the last one off the ship when things go wrong.

This kind of thing is not easy to track. My original suspicions were from back then, but logs aren’t terribly helpful when it’s a dynamic event propagated by game mechanics. By the end of that particular event, I had assumed the protections were turned off before the actual flooding occurred. I was told that they had been turned off.
You still haven’t explained why only now you have decided to make flowing lava into a town a crime. These “exploits of lava” have been going on basically since survival was started, and I am the first person to be punished for it.
The main problem is that you are punishing people for something they didn’t know was a crime. If you had said that flowing lava into towns was illegal a year ago, none of this would be happening and everyone would be happy.
I was involved in a war? o.o. Unless it was the latest war we had, which I have to say, was your idea to try to join the town so you could start the war with them. Other then that I don’t remember helping in any wars, then again, I have TGA so don’t be asking me anything
Again, because the first time I check it out I believed it was done after town protections were off. This is the first proof positive for me of it happening with protections on. I’ve also been more watchful since the egg crap, since I was rather pissed off that it went completely unmentioned by anyone.
When I’m on the server, 98% of the time I am actively checking, fixing, or working on adding backend server crap. It takes enough time rooting through the trial world, so I’ve been more or less relying on player reports for Survival issues. Sorry, but them’s the breaks. As it stands, you can suck it up or flame out. These demotions are minor. Good behavior is all I ask for. You’re not going to have to build the Pyramids to be re-promoted.
You know what, in this case I will stand beside my own words about a leader’s responsibility and the fact that most of this occurred under alien’s watch and was more of less confirmed as ‘totally okay’ by his own example. Meaning I will simply revert to my original decision and spare everyone else.
If drowning a town in lava and cobblestone because you placed them legally outside the town borders is okay, then I ought to unban Prich right now. It strikes me that apparently doing things through Towny protections became totally okay when it was being done against other towns first, but was totally the worst thing ever when Pandora was being hit with the same bullshit.
It’s hypocrisy at its finest.
One way or another, storming off the server and coming up with excuses for what was a minor punishment compared to the alternatives is pretty much the exact opposite of acting like a responsible person and taking your dues for a couple weeks. It’s like refusing to pay your speeding ticket because you didn’t know the camera was there.
You could have at least told us that lava flowing from wilderness into a town was illegal at old solas, when this all began. The fact that you didn’t say anything about made people think that you didn’t care. Prich was actually warned about what he was doing wrong multiple times. This is the first time you have ever said that placing lava from wilderness into a town is illegal.
